The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics is one of the largest departments at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. It is also responsible for teaching foundation courses in natural sciences in all the degree programs offered by the Hs Karlsruhe.
This broad spectrum provides the Department with an excellent technological infrastructure which enables it to engage in numerous application-orientated research activities.
Thanks to its extensive contacts with well-known foreign universities, students from the Department have ample opportunity to acquire international experience and skills.
The degree programs are:
Meeting the needs for practical training
For practical training and research projects, the Department of Mechanical Engineering runs the following laboratories:
- Computer pools
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Production Technology and Robotics
- Machines and Industrial Measurement Technology
- Refrigeration and Air-conditioning
- Technology of Plastics
- Material Testing
- ... and many others!
Technology transfer - Services to industry
Research and development projects, usually in co-operation with industry, seminars and further education courses are run by the Department either in the form of contract research work or at the three Technology Transfer Centers associated with the Department. The Karlsruher Werkzeug- und Formenbauforum (Karlsruhe Die and Mould Design Forum) offers a platform to companies for solving current manufacturing problems.
Focus: Proximity to practice
Close personal contact between professors, students and industry is considered key to our degree program. Compulsory traineeships for students in industry, thesis work carried out in cooperation with industry, excursions, and the appointment of associated staff from industry - all help to ensure that teaching content and methods are as up-to-date as possible.
