International Cooperation

The Australian-German Study Centre for Optofluidics and Nanophotonics (SCON) is a joint project between RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia and HsKA. Our goal is to attract students to research work and state-of-the-art technologies.

At the core of SCON lies a student exchange program between RMIT and HsKA. Students from Australia and Germany will form teams of two, who will work together for one semester at their home institution, and one semester abroad at the partner university. While abroad, the students will benefit from a scholarship and travel allowance provided by the Baden-Wuerttemberg Stipendium, a program of the Baden-Wuerttemberg-Stiftung. During both semesters the student teams will work on exciting innovative research projects that are both engaging and challenging. The projects are conducted in a state-of-the art technological environment: the laboratories of the Institute for Optofluidics and Integrated Nanophotonics (IONAS) at HsKA and the Microplatforms Research Group (MRG) at RMIT.

Optofluidics is an exciting novel technology that combines fluidics and optics at the nanoscale. This combination leads to unprecedented control of light and fluids at extremely small length scales. Application areas for optofluidics are manifold:
renewable energy, medical devices, biomedical sensors, optical sensors, environmental monitoring, and many many more.

The language spoken in the laboratories is English. Students can participate in language courses at both institutions.

If you are a student at RMIT or HsKA, are interested in Optofluidics and Nanophotonics or want to know what it is about, and can imagine going abroad for one semester, we would be glad to hear from you.

Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM “plus”

With its new program Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM “plus”, the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung currently supports ten projects of universities in Baden-Württemberg. Having started in September 2011, the projects lasting from one to three years are funded with an amount ranging from 10,000 Euro to 140,000 Euro.
The objective of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung is to encourage innovative cooperation between universities in Baden-Württemberg and international institutions and to strengthen the network of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM.
The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM “plus” provides Baden-Württemberg universities with the opportunity to carry out projects that support the formation and expansion of new relationships with foreign universities as well as deepening existing cooperation in a sustainable manner.
