Admission Requirements

Application documents

All copies must be officially certified - i.e. issued by a notary, the German embassy, other official authorities, or the institution which issued the original document.
Include a translation into German or English by an authorized translator.

All applicants must hand in:

  • School completion certificate, including transcript
  • German language certificate. Accepted tests include: DSH-2 / Testteil Deutsch der Feststellungsprüfung, TestDaF-2, Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung, Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom, Sprachdiplom II der Kultusministerkonferenz, or equivalent.   • Job training certificate, if applicable
  • Official record of job experience, if applicable
  • Applicants with previous study experience: transcript and official documentation verifying period of study

Applicants for Bachelor's programs

Please submit additionally:

  • Non-EU applicants only: ASK certificate. The Ausländerstudienkolleg of Konstanz University of Applied Sciences (HTWG Konstanz) is the central institution for all universities of applied sciences in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg for the evaluation of applicants' documents. If direct admission to a university of applied sciences is possible, or as soon as the applicant has passed an additional entrance test (Feststellungsprüfung), the ASK certificate is issued.   • German applicants with Non-EU school completion certificate only: evaluation certificate by

  • TASK or TestAS: (Optional) These tests measure general study skills in various academic fields. The test results can be used to improve your entrance ranking.
  • Motivation letter required for the following study programs: International Management, Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Information Systems), and Informatik (Computer Science). Interview required for applicants of Maschinenbau (Mechanical Engineering). See here for more information (in German language only)
  • In order to apply for bachelor's programs, a few months of pre-study work experience is required. Further information can be found here (in German-language only)

The number of places in a study program is limited. The better your grades, the better your chances of acceptance. See here for average rankings of previous applicants (in German language only).

Applicants for Master's programs

Please submit additionally:

  • Certificate of a bachelor's or undergraduate degree of an accredited higher education institution. The degree / major must be in a field related to that of the intended master's program.
  • Bachelor's transcript. Only outstanding applicants can be admitted into the Master's programs, as there is a fixed numerus clausus (mark-based entrance condition): the grade point average of the first degree must be 2.5 or better (German system: 1 = best possible mark, 4 = minimum passing mark). Alternatively, applicants must prove that they are ranked in the upper third (top 35%) of their undergraduate class.
  • For application to the Master's programs Sensor Systems Technology or Geomatics, an English language certificate is required instead of a German language certificate. For International Management, Business Administration and Engineering, and Sales Engineering an English language certificate is required in addition to the German language certificate.
    Accepted tests: TOEFL 550/213/83 (please indicate HsKA institutional code number: 7764 when taking test), IELTS 6.0, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English grade C, and CET-6 (for Chinese students)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter required for the following study programs: Baumanagement (Construction Management and Economics), Technische Redaktion (Technical Communication), Wirtschaftsinformatik (Business Information Systems)
  • GRE: (Optional) Please indicate HsKA institutional code number: 7119 when taking test. Applicants for study programs in the field of economics please use GMAT

Applicants from Bangladesh

A four-year Bachelor's degree or Master's degree is required. Certified copies of academic records are accepted only if verified by the Registrar or Controller of Examinations of the issuing Bangladeshi University.

Applicants from China and Vietnam

For Chinese applicants: Official documents must bear an original red or steel seal of the issuing institution. Degree certificate or combination degree certificate/diploma is required for proof of degree. Documents are required in Chinese with official English or German translations.

Applicants from India

If you have completed your technical or engineering studies in India, a four-year Bachelor's degree is required. If you hold a three-year Bachelor's degree, completion of an Indian Master's degree is required. Transcript of records are required for each year of study. They must indicate the grading system used by the issuing institution. Transcripts and degree certificates must be certified by the educational authority of the issuing institution.

Applicants from Pakistan

If you have completed your technical or engineering studies in Pakistan, a four-year Bachelor's degree is required. If you hold a three-year Bachelor's degree, completion of a Pakistani Master's degree is required.
