It is mainly universities, and not universities of applied sciences, which are engaged in research. Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is an exception to this and is counted among those universities of applied sciences in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg who place a great emphasis on research. As well as being right at the top with regard to raising third-party funds.
HsKA focusses on applied research and development, which is even officially identified as one of our university's strategic aims.
In addition, there are several research institutions at faculty level, e.g. the Institute of Refrigeration, Air-conditioning, and Environmental Engineering (IKKU), which has developed into the only institute of refrigeration of its kind Germany-wide.
Another unrivalled institution is the joint Graduate School in co-operation with the University of Karlsruhe (KIT), which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG (German Research Foundation).
The reciprocal stimulation of research and higher education, as well as an intensive dialogue with industry, does not only strengthen the university's profile but also guarantees that graduates are highly educated and well qualified for the job market, even at an international level.
