Public Holidays in Germany

In addition to the academic dates of HsKA, public holidays should be taken into account, as there are no lectures on these days, and the offices (and most shops) are closed.

Germany-wide public holidays

January 1, May 1, October 3 (national day), December 25-26.

Good Friday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, and Whit Monday are also public holidays, within the period of March to June, but with no fixed dates, varying each year. December 24 (Christmas Eve) and December 31 (New Year’s Eve) are half-holidays; stores close early, around 2:00 p.m. On Fat Tuesday, there can also be constraints due to the Mardi Gras parade in Karlsruhe.

Public holidays in Baden-Württemberg

January 6, November 1, and Corpus Christi, which does not have a fixed date.
Other federal states may have different public holidays.

We recommend buying a cheap calendar in Germany as they contain all details.
