A practical internship semester, carried out under the supervision of companies with close interconnection of theory and experience, constitute a major feature of practically-oriented studies at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.
Students' academic knowledge is complemented by their application of it into the industry over a period of 95 days. The requirements of internships for different study programs are detailed in the respective Studien- und Prüfungsordnung (Curriculum and Examination regulations) and in faculties' information material.
All bachelor's programs have an internship semester, this is usually integrated in the 5th semester. The master's programs are designed to enhance academic studies and have therefore no integrated internship semester.
Usually students must find a suitable position themselves; however they are supported in this by the faculty's Internship Board or by the Liaison Office for Integrated Traineeships.
The student then signs a contract with the company and are required to document their activities during the internship. During the internship semester, full student status is maintained; however it is not possible to hold a position in the AStA or other student administrative body.
