Where can you eat?
The quickest, easiest and cheapest option is the student canteen "Mensa Moltke". With its modern design, it is hard to miss, located right next to the campus. It is managed by the Student Services, and Karlsruhe students can buy subsidized meals there for about 2 to 3.50 euros. The menu changes daily: there are vegetarian meals available as well as different choices of main dishes, side dishes, soup, salads, and desserts. Ingredients are listed for people with special diet requirements. For the current menu, please see the Student Service pages.
The is a cafeteria on campus for small snacks and drinks. It, too, is managed and subsidized by the Student Services.
Many small restaurants, snack bars and cafés offering food of different nationalities are close by, although a bit more expensive (5 to 10 Euros).
Doing your cooking yourself
If you enjoy cooking for yourself, which is possible in the students' halls of residency, there is a range of different priced shops: discounters, supermarkets, health food shops, weekly farmers’ markets, a good range of ethnic foodshops – Asian, Turkish, Italian.
The opening hours in the city center are, usually, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. but can vary. At other times, or on public holidays, try gas stations, as they also have a small food selection.
Good to know: Karlsruhe is quite proud of its tap water, which is safe to drink, because it is obtained from local springs and closely monitored.
