Where can you eat?
The quickest, easiest and cheapest choice is the student canteen "Mensa Moltke". With its modern design, it is hard to miss, being located right next to the campus. It is managed by the Student Services, and Karlsruhe students can buy subsidized meals there for about 2 to 3.50 Euros. The menu chances daily, there are vegetarian meals available as well as different choices of main dishes, side dishes, soup, salads, and desserts. Ingredients are listed, for people with special diet requirements. For the current menu, please see the Student Service pages.
Other options include:
On-campus is a cafeteria for small snacks and drinks. This, too, is managed by the Student Services and subsidized.
Many small restaurants, snack bars and cafés offering food of different nationalities are close by, although a bit more expensive (5 to 10 Euros).
Doing your cooking yourself
If you cook yourself, which is possible in the students' hostel, there is a range of different priced shops: discounters, supermarkets, health food shops, weekly farmers’ markets, a good range of ethnic foodshops – Asian, Turkish, Italian.
The opening hours are usually, in the city center, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. but can vary. At other times, or on public holidays, try gas stations who have a small range of foodstuffs.
Good to know: Karlsruhe is quite proud of its tap water, which has drinking water quality, because it is obtained from local springs and closely monitored.
