Research at Faculty AB

The subjects of research at Faculty AB range from compatible construction materials in building, maintenance management systems, building climate control, energy efficient building, and redevelopment to simulation, granulation techniques, and projekt management. For the projects, we closely cooperate with other faculties both at HsKA and at other universities such as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Technische Universität Berlin, the TU Bratislava/Slovakia, the University of Cape Town/South Africa, and the Indian Institutes of Technologie in Mumbai and Chennai.

The study projects at Faculty AB are centered around teams researching an interdisciplinary question in an independent, self-organized and academic manner. By this, their skills in documenting and presenting their findings are also trained.

This modern teaching concept has proven very popular among the students as supplementing and replacing more traditional lectures and exercises. By means of study projects, important questions and problems are examined such as the conversion of a historic building into an acoustically and esthetically high-quality space for art which can be used in multiple ways and which is optimized as to energy consumption. Projects such as this establish Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences as a place for open, practically-oriented, and interdisciplinary discussion going beyond the technical points.
