Study fees

Note: Currently, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provides interim financial aid to help those students who can prove that they are faced with financial hardship caused by the pandemic, who need immediate help and are unable to overcome their pandemic-related hardship by making use of other support.

Applications can only be filed separately for the months June, July and August 2020. The decision on granting the interim financial aid is taken by the relevant student union (Studierendenwerk/Studentenwerk) on the basis of the information you provide and within the budget available to it. The order in which applications are processed is determined by the date the complete documents are received by the student union concerned. Incomplete applications will not be processed. There is no legal entitlement to interim financial aid.

Regular degree studens are required to pay the following fees:

Tuition fee

Since the winter semester 2017/18, the State universities of Baden-Württemberg are charging tuition fees for international students who are NOT EU nationals. The tuition fee amounts to 1,500 euros per semester due from new students to bachelor's and master's programs.

Non-EU international students are exempt from paying the tuition fee if

  • they are already registered to study a degree program at this university (right of continuance), but they need to pay the tuition fees once they change to another university or another degree program.
  • they acquired their university entrance qualification in Germany (so-called "Bildungsinländer").
  • they were given refugee status, they have a non-limited residence permit, or can present proof of  permission or exceptional leave to remain.
  • they participate in a special State or university exchange programs.
  • they are spouse or child of an EU national.
  • they have lived and worked for 5 years in Germany.
  • they have a parent who has lived and legally worked for a total of three years in Germany, within a period of six years prior to the start of studies.
  • they have graduated in a bachelor's and a master's program in Germany. Please note that in this case a tuition fee of 650 Euro for additional studies will be charged.

No tuition fee is paid during internship or leave of absence semesters.

If you are exempt from study fee but did receive a request for payment of 1,500 Euro please fill in the form and file the objection by the end of the registration period at the latest.

Highly gifted non-EU students who have above-average study results can place an application for tuition fee waiver. The call for applications for tuition fee waiver

Application fee

There is no application fee at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences.

Studierendenwerk (Student Service) fee

As a student at the Hochschule Karlsruhe you will have access to various studient facilities such as the Mensa (student canteen) and cafeteria, student residences, and sports facilities. These facilities are provided by the Studierendenwerk, to which students pay member contribution. Please remember to transfer the fees in time during the re-registration period, otherwise you cannot be registered as a student, and a fine of 10 Euros is raised for late payment!

Campus Card

There is also a one-time payment of € 5 to have your student ID (Campus Card) made.

Registration fee (administrative fee)

Amount: 70 Euros

Student Union membership fee

The Student Self-Government (Verfasste Studierendenschaft) levels a membership fee from every student. For administrative reasons, this is charged by the university during the usual registration / re-enrolment procedure and then forwarded fully to the Student Union.

Payment of the above fees is a prerequisite for enrollment at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. Late payment results in a penalty fee of approximately 10 Euros. All fees must be paid by bank transfer each semester (respect the deadlines) and can increase from semester to semester.
