Application process

First step: self-evaluation ("Orientierungstest")

To help applicants to bachelor's programs reflect on their strengths, skills, and plans, you are by law required to submit attestation of taking a self-evaluation (not the self-evaluation itself, just the printout confirming that you took part). HsKA has such a test included into the online application procedure, you will access this automatically when using the application portal. Alternatively, you can add a confirmation of taking another test (e.g. www.was-studiere-ich.de).

Second step: application

Please fill out the online application (German-language only) and send it. You will be issued with a pdf file as a receipt. A few study programs require different application, please see below.

Third step: submit application documents

Print out the application receipt and send it by post together with the application documents (as listed at Admission requirements) and the attestation of taking part in the self-evaluation to:

Hochschule Karlsruhe - Technik und Wirtschaft
Studentische Abteilung
Postfach 2440
76012 Karlsruhe
Germany

Some degree programs have special requirements for application:

  • statement of purpose: please see German-language page for a list of those study programs which require a statement of purpose, and to download the corresponding form
  • assessment test (optional): by taking part in this test, you can improve your chances for applying to the degree programs International Management and Business Administration and Engineering (an inferior test result will not effect your chances). See the German-language Faculty's pages for details.
  • entrance assessment (optional): by taking part in this assessment, you can improve your chances for applying to the degree program Mechanical Engineering. See the German-language Faculty's pages for details.

Applicants from Non-EU countries to Bachelor's programs

Before applying at HsKA by the application procedure described above, please send your documents for evaluation to

Ausländerstudienkolleg
Brauneggerstr. 55
78462 Konstanz
Phone +49 7531 206-361

For information on the documents required, deadlines, and the application form, please see the ASK website.
Your certificates will be evaluated by ASK Konstanz. Rule of thumb: you must have AT LEAST an education level which would allow university entrance in your home country. The following evaluations may be possible:

  • Your level of schooling may allow university entrance and you are eligible to apply directly to a study program. As proof of this, you will receive the ASK certificate.
  • You need additional preparation before you are allowed to apply at a university. ASK Konstanz offers a one-year preparatory course to pass the Feststellungsprüfung (university entrance exam) in the group of subjects appropriate for your intended study program. You will receive a Feststellungsprüfung certificate for this.

The ASK certificate / Feststellungsprüfung certificate is not an admission to HsKA, but an evaluation certificate. It is required for the application process at HsKA. The ASK certificate / Feststellungsprüfung certificate can be used for application to every universitiy of applied sciences in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg.

If you have not yet received the ASK / Feststellungsprüfung certificate but are about to miss the HsKA application deadline (15 July or 15 January), please apply first at HsKA and hand in the certificate as soon as you receive it.
