Each year, the CHE university ranking assesses one third of the degree subjects offered. This year, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA) was rated for its degree programs in architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering and mechatronics. For all these degree programs, HsKA received top placements:
Students were particularly impressed with the architecture degree programs in five categories (all top group placements): support provided by teaching staff, range of courses offered, career guidance offers, practical relevance, premises and overall study situation. In the category teaching and research, HsKA particularly stood out when it came to completion of the Bachelor's and Master's degree within a reasonable time frame (top ratings for both programs).
Here students were particularly happy about degree completion within a reasonable time frame for both the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs as well as with the business contacts provided during the Bachelor's degree program. The premises were also rated highly.
Electrical Engineering and Information Technology
These degree programs were rated top flight in three categories: support provided at the beginning of studies, business contacts provided during the Bachelor's degree program and international orientation of the Master’s degree program.
Here the students were particularly pleased with the equipment available at the internship labs. The degree programs further received top ratings for the categories support provided at the beginning of studies (Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs) and business contacts and international orientation (Master’s degree program). Another top ranking was secured for the raising of research funds (per professor).
Students were literally enthusiastic about this degree program. They gave top rankings for a total of ten categories: support provided by teaching staff, support offered throughout their studies, range of courses offered, organization of the degree programs, exams, career guidance offers, practical relevance, support provided during study abroad semesters, IT infrastructure, laboratory equipment and the overall study situation. This degree program was also ranked top in the categories support provided at the beginning of studies, business contacts during Bachelor’s degree program, international orientation of Master’s degree program and raising of research funds (per professor).
Here students were particularly pleased with the range of courses offered and the laboratory equipment provided. This degree program further impressed students in the following categories: completion of the Master's degree within a reasonable time frame, extent to which learning venues are interlinked in the dual system of study, support provided at the beginning of studies, business contacts, international orientation of Master’s degree program and raising of research funds (per professor).
The results obtained for other degree programs are taken from the CHE rankings of previous years. In 2018, HsKA obtained top placements for its degree programs in computer science. Top ratings were obtained in four out of five central evaluation categories. What students appreciated most was the overall study situation, the support provided by teaching staff, organization of the degree programs, career guidance offers and the IT infrastructure. HsKA was also rated at the top in the category "degree completion within reasonable time". This category looks at the share of students who completed their studies within the standard period of study, plus one or two semesters. In the category "Business contacts”, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was also ranked among the best.
HsKA was also among the top-rated universities for its degree programs in Business Information Systems and its Bachelor's degree program in International IT Business: It ranked among the best in three assessment criteria, namely international orientation, business contacts and the overall study situation. In the field of Business Administration, the study programs offered by HsKA in International Management as well as the Master's degree program Tricontinental Master in Global Studies were ranked. They obtained top ratings in three categories: degree completion within a reasonable time frame, business contacts, and support for students during the beginning of their studies. HsKA’s degree programs in Business Administration and Engineering and its new Master's degree program in Technology Entrepreneurship were ranked at the top in the categories international orientation and business contacts.
The CHE University Ranking is one of the most comprehensive and detailed university rankings in the German-speaking countries. Altogether over 300 universities were ranked by more than 150,000 students. Besides looking at the degree programs, teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also accounts for students' ratings given on the study conditions at their university. The new 2019/20 ZEIT Study Guide, including the ranking results, is available on newsstands from May 7th, 2019.
"The results of renowned university rankings", emphasizes Prof. Dr. Frank Artinger, President of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, “have confirmed the high quality of our programs for years now. This is largely due to the close dovetailing of our teaching and applied research. It opens up the best career opportunities for our graduates worldwide. The results clearly reflect the practical approach and international orientation of our study programs – both pivotal, strategic goals of the university education we offer.”
Only last week, the results of a survey of 650 HR managers from companies with 10 to 1,000 employees were published in WirtschaftsWoche (No. 19 of May 3rd, 2019). They were asked which universities they preferred to recruit employees from – i.e. which universities provide the best training for the needs of their companies.
When it comes to Computer Science and Business Administration and Engineering, HR managers believe that Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, together with another university of applied sciences, best prepares its graduates for the profession and thus for their careers – HsKA was rated 2nd place in this ranking. In the fields Electrical engineering and Business Information Systems, it came in 3rd place. For Mechanical Engineering, HsKA was still able to reach 7th place and thus ranks among the top ten in five of the six evaluated disciplines nationwide. According to German personnel managers, all in all, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences belongs to the top three universities of applied sciences in Germany.
