Top ratings in trendence Graduate Barometer 2015
Student survey: Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences ranks at the very top for its programs in Computer Science and Business Information Systems
This is the seventeenth time the Berlin trendence Institute has interviewed senior IT students about their career ambitions, employers of their choice, and their university for the Germany-wide comparison study "trendence Graduate Barometer – German IT Edition". This year 6,602 students from 76 universities participated in the study.
During the study, the Computer Science and Business Information Systems students of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA) honored their university with a testimonial that could not have been much better – for 7 out of 10 categories, including 28 individual criteria, the university was rated "top performer". HsKA and another renowned university obtained the best ranking results. Karlsruhe took first place among the German universities and universities of applied sciences in several categories, namely: evaluation of lecturers and professors, practical relevance of the studies and in career services (i.e. career consulting and fostering). In terms of cooperation with the industry, the quality and up-to-dateness of the libraries and the quality of service and consulting, it was rated number 2 among all universities and number 1 among the universities of applied sciences. For the category student activities, it was rated number 3 among all universities and came in second place among the universities of applied sciences. For the internationalization of its programs, it was rated number 4 among all universities and number 1 among the universities of applied sciences.
"The results of the study once again confirm our excellent reputation and the high quality of teaching at our university, which is partly achieved by closely linking it to our research activities", emphasizes President Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Meisel.
So it comes as no surprise that according to further results of the survey, 60% of the Computer Science and Business Information Systems students at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences are very satisfied with their program and 32% are content – i.e. roughly double the students are happy with their program as compared to the average determined amongst German universities. The share of Bachelor degree students who want to continue with a Master's degree program at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is also significantly higher than the average amongst German universities.
At the same time, the "trendence Graduate Barometer – Engineering Edition" was published, for which 14,852 students of technical and engineering subjects at 80 German universities were interviewed. The results of this survey confirmed the first-rate reputation of the university in Karlsruhe: It was rated top by its students for career consulting and fostering (career services) and received good ratings for literally all other categories: lecturers/professors, practical relevance of the programs, international orientation, quality and up-to-dateness of the libraries, service and consulting and its student activities.
CHE university ranking 2015/16: Excellent ratings for degree programs offered at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
Computer science program at HsKA was amongst the top-rated in several categories
The CHE University Ranking is one of the most comprehensive and detailed university rankings in the German-speaking countries. Altogether over 300 universities, 2,500 faculties, 7,500 degree programs and their students' evaluations were taken into account. The results will be presented on 5 May 2015 in the ZEIT Study Guide 2015/2016. Besides looking at the degree programs, teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also accounts for students' evaluations given on the study conditions at their university.
Each year, one third of the study subjects is reevaluated. This year's ranking included computer science, for which Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA) obtained excellent results: The computer science degree programs were amongst the top-rated for practical relevance and study time (degree awarded after a reasonable period of time). The Bachelor degree programs Computer Science and Communication & Media Management received particularly high ratings for their practical elements, experiences imparted outside the university, and practical relevance of the final theses. In these categories the university has obtained the maximum number of points, leading to an overall result of 9 out of 11 points. In addition, its Master degree program Computer Science was rated among the best for international orientation. Here Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was able to score with its various options for studying abroad and the variety of language courses offered.
Other results are taken from CHE rankings of previous years. In 2014, the ranking included degree programs offered for business information systems, communication and media management, industrial engineering and management sciences, among others. Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was also awarded top ratings for these programs. The Business Information System as well as the Communication and Media Management programs offered at HsKA took top positions in all major evaluation categories: the overall study situation, academic feasibility, support provided to students by the teaching staff, international orientation, i.e. completion of the studies within the normal course duration and relevance for practice. In Business Information Systems, HsKA has been rated among the top 2 universities of applied sciences in the German-speaking countries, and in Media and Communication Sciences among the top 3!
The Business Administration and Engineering program was also ranked at the top: It was awarded top ratings for the overall study situation, the support provided to students by the teaching staff, the subjects offered and practical relevance. In addition, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences received excellent ratings for business administration, represented by the study program International Management, for the categories: overall study situation and international orientation.
The 2013 ranking dealt with, among others, the programs offered in civil engineering. In the categories overall study situation, the support provided to students by the teaching staff and reputation of professors/academics, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was in the lead group – only two other universities of applied sciences attained better results in that ranking. In the categories overall study situation, support provided to students by the teaching staff, research funds per professor, and reputation of professors/academics, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences was rated among the top universities of applied sciences in the German-speaking countries for its degree programs in mechanical engineering. Only one other university of applied sciences was ranked higher.
"The results of renowned university rankings", emphasizes Prof. Dr. Karl-Heinz Meisel, President of Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, "again and again confirm the high quality of our programs. This is largely due to the close dovetailing of our teaching and applied research. It opens up the best career opportunities for our graduates worldwide."
